Medical emergency halts afternoon TT practice; evening qualifying session rescheduled

By 3FM Published 27 May 2026

The TT races experienced an unexpected disruption on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, when organisers brought the afternoon qualifying session to a temporary halt due to a non-racing medical emergency on the famous Mountain Course.

What Happened During Afternoon Practice?

TT officials stopped bikes from entering the course to allow emergency services full access to the affected area. While the afternoon practice session continued in other sections, all course action between the Grandstand and Ballacraine was suspended to ensure emergency vehicles could reach those in need without obstruction. Roads around the track remained closed throughout the incident.

Road Closures and Schedule Updates

The public roads surrounding the TT course reopened at 4:30pm as the afternoon session concluded, with the exception of the Mountain Road. Following this brief reopening, roads closed again at 6:00pm for the evening qualifying session, before fully reopening no later than 9:30pm.

Travel Tips for TT Visitors

If you're travelling to the Isle of Man for the TT, organisers remind visitors to plan ahead. Steam Packet passengers are urged to provide accurate vehicle measurements when booking to avoid delays at Heysham port, where heavy traffic and long tailbacks have been reported. Plan extra time for your journey and check road status before travelling.
