Ramsey Dog Training Club shines on international stage at prestigious Crufts 2026
The Isle of Man is making its mark at one of the world's most prestigious dog shows this week. The Ramsey Dog Training Club's elite GOLD Display Team—12 expertly trained dogs and their handlers—is representing our island at Crufts 2026, the premier canine competition attracting over 150,000 visitors to Birmingham's NEC through Sunday.
Led by Team Manager Jean Young, the Manx contingent is showcasing exceptional obedience standards under The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme, with live demonstrations taking centre stage in the show's prime location—the first ring visitors encounter. These aren't just any performances; the team is tackling technically demanding challenges that demonstrate the remarkable partnership between dogs and their owners. Among the stars is Rita, an eight-year-old Collie competing alongside her handler Ruth Meade.
Beyond the display team, five additional club members are competing individually, flying the Manx flag with pride. Achieving GOLD level—the highest standard in the UK's largest dog training programme—represents years of dedicated training and commitment to responsible ownership. For visitors planning a trip to Crufts or simply curious about world-class canine talent, following the Isle of Man's team offers a uniquely personal glimpse into international dog sport excellence.
