TT organisers commit to delivering smooth racing fortnight despite rising event costs

As the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races draw closer, event organisers are pulling out all the stops to ensure the fortnight runs as smoothly as possible. Despite acknowledging that certain costs are 'spiralling', the Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson has confirmed that the budget to run the iconic racing event remains fully protected and has never been cut.

Strategic Changes to Tackle Schedule Pressures

Last year's weather disruption forced multiple cancellations and schedule changes, including the shocking cancellation of the legendary Senior race. This year, organisers have introduced several format modifications designed to prevent similar issues and manage the packed 10-race programme more effectively.

New Rest Days and Practice Schedule

  • Additional rest day added: Qualifying week now includes three rest days instead of two, with Thursday, 28 May becoming a new recovery day
  • Double-header on 27 May: Both afternoon and evening timed practice sessions will run back-to-back
  • Updated race order: The Superstock race opens the entire event on Saturday, 30 May, while the Supersport race moves to Tuesday, 2 June

These adjustments aim to give teams better preparation time and reduce the risk of further schedule disruptions, ensuring visitors can experience the world-class racing they've travelled to see.

Strict Enforcement for Spectators and Visitors

Mr Thompson has issued a stark warning to anyone planning to visit the course: 'harsh penalties' will be imposed on spectators and members of the public who breach safety rules. This includes accessing closed roads during racing sessions and flying drones in the vicinity of the Snaefell Mountain Course. These measures are essential for protecting both participants and the thousands of spectators who attend the event.

With these improvements in place, the 2026 TT promises to be smoother, safer, and even more spectacular for fans planning their Isle of Man trip.
