Railway services step up as bus strike enters fourth weekend

By 3FM Published 27 March 2026

If you're planning to get around the Isle of Man this weekend, it's worth knowing that bus services will be limited once again. As Unite the Union members begin their fourth weekend strike in an ongoing dispute with the Department of Infrastructure over contracts and pay, travellers are being encouraged to consider alternative transport options.

Extra Railway Services to Help You Get Around

The good news for visitors and residents? Both the Manx Electric Railway and Steam Railway are running extra services today to help bridge the gap. These heritage railways offer a fantastic alternative way to explore the Island's stunning coastal and countryside routes while getting where you need to go.

Limited Bus Timetable in Place

Bus Vannin has confirmed it will operate 42 services today, with the last bus of the day departing Port St Mary for Douglas at 8.20pm. A full list of today's services is available via Bus Vannin's website, so plan your journeys in advance to avoid disappointment.

Plan Ahead for Your Isle of Man Visit

If you're visiting the Island during this period, we recommend:

  • Checking Bus Vannin's contingency timetable before travelling
  • Considering the scenic heritage railways as a transport alternative
  • Planning journeys in advance and allowing extra time
  • Using local taxis or car rental services if available

The strike looks set to continue, so stay updated on the latest travel information to make the most of your time on the Isle of Man.
