New food hygiene ratings coming to Isle of Man's restaurants and cafés next year
If you're planning your next meal out on the Isle of Man, you'll soon have access to detailed food hygiene information about where you're eating. The government has announced plans to publish comprehensive food safety ratings for the Island's cafés, restaurants, takeaways, and pubs from next year onwards.
Starting in January 2027, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture will begin inspecting food businesses across the Island. These inspections will assess food handling practices, premises conditions and cleanliness, and management systems. Each business will receive a score between zero and five, which will be published online for public access.
This transparent rating system gives travellers and locals alike the confidence to choose dining establishments with verified food safety standards. You'll be able to check hygiene ratings before booking a restaurant or grabbing a bite to eat, making it easier to find trusted spots across the Island.
Food business owners should expect contact from the department directly as inspections get underway. The new initiative reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and public health across the Isle of Man's hospitality sector.
