Plan your half-term travels: key road closures on Old Castletown Road this April

By ManxRadio Published 7 April 2026

If you're planning to explore the Isle of Man this half-term, it's worth noting some important road works that could affect your journey. Manx Utilities has confirmed full closures on the Old Castletown Road over two consecutive weekends, so travellers should plan their routes accordingly.

Full Closures: What You Need to Know

The Old Castletown Road will be completely closed between 7.30am and 5pm on 11–12 April and 18–19 April. During these periods, the road will be inaccessible, so visitors heading towards Castletown or using this route should allow extra travel time and consider alternative paths.

The good news? Access will be maintained via Port Soderick during the closures, providing a viable detour for those needing to reach areas beyond the work site. Outside of these weekend closures, single lane traffic management will continue where possible, keeping one direction of travel open.

Additional Works Ahead

Manx Utilities has also flagged a further three-day period of single lane traffic management to come at a date still to be confirmed. This phase will operate between 9.30am and 3pm, with arrangements removed each evening to allow fuller access during off-peak hours. Final details are being coordinated with the Department of Infrastructure.

Plan ahead: Check back for updates on the third phase of works, and consider booking accommodation or activities outside these dates if you're visiting during half-term. Safe travels!
