New Polish consulate opens in Douglas, marking a significant milestone for the Island's growing Polish community
The Isle of Man has welcomed a new diplomatic presence this week with the official opening of the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Douglas. The milestone marks an important step forward for Polish citizens living on the Island and reflects the strengthening ties between Poland and the Manx community.
Ambassador Rafał Wiśniewski, the chargé d'Affaires a.i of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, inaugurated the consulate during an official visit to the Island this week. The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and Chief Minister Alfred Cannan, along with colleagues from Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Diaspora and Public Diplomacy Unit.
Ranita Szymańska has been appointed as the new honorary consul, taking on the important role of supporting Polish nationals on the Island and fostering closer cultural and economic cooperation between the two communities.
The new consular post will provide essential support to Polish citizens living and working on the Isle of Man, offering practical assistance with documentation, visas, and other consular services. Beyond administrative support, the consulate is positioned to strengthen cultural exchanges and business opportunities between Poland and the Island.
During the visit, the Polish delegation also paid respects at sites commemorating the contribution and sacrifice of Polish servicemen during the Second World War—a reminder of the deep historical bonds between Poland and the Isle of Man. The consulate's opening represents not just practical support, but recognition of Poland's enduring place in the Island's story.
