Safety-first route changes announced ahead of Saturday's fell running events
If you're planning to cheer on runners this Saturday, the Manx Mountain Marathon is going ahead—but with an important twist. Organisers have made a last-minute decision to alter the race route due to forecast strong winds, prioritising competitor safety over the traditional course.
Both the full marathon and half marathon events, which form part of the Callin Wild Manx Fell League, will now take a modified path. The Met Office at Ronaldsway is predicting winds reaching force six to seven by mid-afternoon, with conditions expected to strengthen further throughout the day.
The main concern centres on the coastal section between Fleshwick and Bradda, where parts of the original route run dangerously close to cliff edges. Rather than risk competitor safety in these exposed conditions, organisers have made the difficult decision to reroute runners.
While organisers have apologised for removing what they describe as a "much-loved" climb from the route, they've explained that the staggered start times mean all competitors—not just the leading runners—need to be protected from deteriorating conditions.
If you're taking part, prepare for cooler, windier weather than typical spring conditions. Organisers recommend wearing an additional base layer, and stay alert for any further updates about other sections of the course, which will be monitored throughout the event.
