Visitors to the Isle of Man now have a brand-new gateway to explore the Island's rich cultural heritage. Manx National Heritage has officially opened an exciting visitor welcome hub in the heart of Douglas, transforming the historic former Barclays building on Market Square into a modern, accessible destination for travellers and locals alike.

Your Gateway to Island Heritage

The ground floor of 1 Market Square is now a vibrant welcome hub where visitors can access comprehensive information about attractions across the Island, purchase admission tickets for all Manx National Heritage sites, and buy travel tickets in one convenient location. There's also a new retail shop where every purchase directly supports the organisation's charitable work and preserves the Island's cultural treasures.

A Hub for Culture and Community

During quieter months, the space will come alive with a programme of small-scale events designed to celebrate Manx creativity, craftsmanship and culture. Visitors and residents can enjoy workshops, creative sessions, and exclusive 'Meet the Maker' events that bring the Island's artistic community to life. It's the perfect opportunity to connect with local makers and experience authentic Manx heritage.

What's Next

The project's second phase will develop the upper floors into modern office accommodation for approximately 8-10 team members. Manx National Heritage prioritised opening the ground floor ahead of this year's TT festival, ensuring visitors during the busy racing season have the best possible introduction to the Island's attractions.

Connie Lovel, Chief Executive of Manx National Heritage, expressed her enthusiasm about the new centre, hoping it will benefit both the organisation and Douglas town centre as a whole. Whether you're planning a visit during TT or any other time of year, the new welcome hub is your perfect starting point for discovering what makes the Isle of Man special.
