Travel disruption as technical issues force cancellation of morning ferry service
If you're planning to travel between the Isle of Man and Lancashire today, you'll need to adjust your plans. Steam Packet's Manxman ferry service has been forced to cancel this morning's sailing to Heysham, following a technical issue that caused the vessel's delayed arrival into Douglas.
The overnight crossing from Heysham took significantly longer than scheduled, with the journey extending to five hours instead of the usual timeframe. As the Manxman approached Douglas Harbour this morning, tugboat assistance was required to safely guide the vessel into port—a sign that the technical problems had impacted her manoeuvrability.
The cancellations extend in both directions. In addition to the morning departure from Douglas, the 3.15pm sailing from Heysham has also been cancelled, potentially affecting travellers planning their return journey to the island. Steam Packet has confirmed that a technical issue is responsible for the disruptions.
If you have bookings affected by today's cancellations, contact Steam Packet directly for rebooking options or further updates. The company issued a statement at 7.45am with additional information. Travellers should check the latest schedules before heading to the terminal, as further disruptions cannot be ruled out while engineers assess the vessel's technical concerns.
