A social media dispute between two Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHKs has been resolved with an apology, though questions remain about communication within the local government chamber. Tim Glover has apologised to his constituency colleague Jason Moorhouse after accusing him of 'parasite politics' in a Facebook post that sparked debate about legislative processes and parliamentary procedure.

What Sparked the Disagreement?

The row centred on nicotine pouch legislation and whether Mr Moorhouse should have raised a question in the House of Keys about why these products remain available to under-18s. Mr Glover initially criticised the question, claiming his colleague knew that a bill addressing the issue was already progressing through all branches in a single day.

Mr Moorhouse disputed this account, insisting he had received no update about the legislation until 4.13pm on Monday 29 June—just hours before the House of Keys met for the final time during this administration. He argued his question was therefore justified and necessary to hold the government to account.

The Apology and Moving Forward

Mr Glover has since apologised for the 'terse nature' of his original post, stating in his statement that 'I am better than that'. However, he also expressed hope that Mr Moorhouse would withdraw his question now that the answer was known, adding that colleagues had noted the question may have actually helped progress the legislation.

Mr Moorhouse responded by describing the situation as 'frustrating' but stressing the need to move forward. He emphasised his focus remains on 'getting work done and improving the lives of people in Arbory, Castletown and Malew in the limited time which remains'. Both members have now largely moved past the dispute, though it highlights ongoing questions about communication channels within the Manx government.
