Manx Care explores digital options to ease pressure on sexual health services

By 3FM Published 30 June 2026

The Manx Integrated Sexual Health Centre is fielding around 300 phone calls every week, and health officials are now considering how technology could help streamline access to appointments. Health Minister Claire Christian revealed the figures this week when addressing questions in the House of Keys about the clinic's operations on Kensington Road in Douglas.

Online Appointments Could Transform Access to Sexual Health Services

Manx Care is exploring the possibility of introducing an online appointment system for the sexual health clinic. While no formal work has yet begun on setting up the digital platform or costing the project, the proposal signals a commitment to modernising how residents can access this essential healthcare service.

Managing Demand Effectively

Despite the high volume of weekly calls, the Health Minister dismissed suggestions that the clinic is struggling to cope with demand. The centre continues to serve the Island's population effectively, though introducing online bookings could reduce phone congestion and provide visitors and residents with greater flexibility when scheduling appointments.

What's Next for the Service?

As Manx Care considers the practicalities and costs involved, this move could position the Isle of Man's sexual health services among the more accessible healthcare options in the region. For travellers and residents alike, any improvements to appointment accessibility will make it easier to access confidential health services when needed.
