Temporary dental unit planned for Ramsey Hospital car park during essential closure

The proposed temporary dental facility would be mounted on an HGV trailer and positioned for 18 months while the hospital undergoes vital repairs. This innovative approach aims to ensure that residents and visitors to the north of the island don't face lengthy journeys for routine dental care during the closure period.
The hospital's temporary closure stems from essential maintenance work that was triggered after significant issues were discovered during pest control treatment on Martin Ward. The unexpected repairs have forced the relocation of several services, including the Smile Dental Clinic, which has moved to Douglas — creating a considerable inconvenience for northern communities and tourists seeking local healthcare.
Currently, there is no alternative dental facility in the north of the island, making the temporary unit an essential service for both residents and visitors. Once approved, the mobile clinic will provide continuity of care and reduce the need for patients to travel south to access basic dental services during their stay or recovery period.
