Police seek public help following serious incident during TT 2026 opening practice session
The Isle of Man TT 2026 got off to a dramatic start when day one of the opening free practice session was suspended following a serious incident in Ramsey on 25 May. The incident, which involved a rider and eight spectators, has prompted authorities to launch an appeal for footage to help with their investigation.
The Isle of Man Police have set up a secure online portal for members of the public to upload any photographs or video footage captured during the incident. This digital evidence-gathering tool will assist officers with their enquiries into what happened during the TT's opening day of racing.
Those who witnessed the incident or have relevant footage can submit materials through the portal, which has previously been used to assist with major investigations on the island. Police have emphasised that their thoughts are with all those involved and their families during this difficult time.
As a result of the serious nature of the incident, two people were airlifted to specialist care facilities in the UK. The viewing area at Parliament Square will remain closed for the remainder of the racing fortnight, with a new prohibited area established at Albert Square in Ramsey. For visitors and enthusiasts planning to attend the famous motorcycle races, alternative viewing locations will be available throughout the fortnight.
Further details regarding safety measures and any additional information are expected to be revealed by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) in June. The TT continues to be one of the world's most thrilling motorsport events, and authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety of all participants and spectators.
