Weather delays kick off TT 2026 opening race day on the Isle of Man
The 2026 TT races got off to a weather-affected start on Saturday, 30 May, as low cloud and poor visibility forced organisers to postpone the opening race of the week. The RL360 Superstock TT Race 1 has been rescheduled to 1pm, with the three-lap encounter now running later than originally planned.
The iconic Mountain Road section of the TT Mountain Course remains closed due to low cloud affecting visibility on the island's highest routes. In response, all other roads surrounding the course will now close at 12pm to allow race preparations to continue safely. Roads are expected to reopen no later than 9:30pm, regardless of whether the race goes ahead as rescheduled.
Beyond weather concerns, organisers cited mechanical issues with some machines as a contributing factor to the postponement. These issues, combined with poor atmospheric conditions, made it unsafe to run the race at its originally scheduled time earlier in the day.
If you're watching the TT races in person, be aware that road closures may extend beyond the scheduled 1pm start time. Allow extra time for travel around the course area, and check local announcements for any further updates. The famous Honda machinery and competitors are primed and ready to go—weather permitting—so keen spectators should stay tuned for confirmation that racing will proceed as the afternoon progresses.
