Safety protocols activated as incident halts opening practice session
The first practice session of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Festival has been cancelled following a significant incident on the course earlier today. Race organisers have confirmed there will be no further action around the circuit as a precaution, with major incident protocols having been activated after a crash on Parliament Square.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, which led organisers to make the decision to halt all racing activity for the remainder of the day. Roads around the course remain closed as investigations continue, and a road closure order has been formally put in place in St Johns as a result of the earlier crash.
If you're planning to visit the Island during TT fortnight, expect ongoing traffic management around the course. Road closures will remain in effect, so plan your journey accordingly and allow extra time for travel between locations. Check local updates before heading out to ensure you have the latest information on which roads are affected.
Despite today's cancellation, the festival continues with plenty to enjoy across the Island. Peel will host its first-ever live beach gig as part of TT festivities, offering a unique seaside entertainment experience. Meanwhile, Douglas Promenade's funfair has arrived and is now open to visitors. For the truly adventurous, an Island firefighter will be undertaking a remarkable charity lap of the TT course on foot—in full firefighting gear—later this month.
