Travel disruptions on the Isle of Man as King Charles makes his first royal visit as monarch
If you're planning to explore the Isle of Man today, it's worth knowing that a very special visitor is arriving—King Charles III is making his first visit to the Island as monarch, and it's already affecting transport across the capital and beyond.
The Manx Electric Railway is operating a reduced service in anticipation of the royal visit. No trams will run from Douglas to Laxey until 3.10pm, with services resuming from Laxey to the capital from 3.25pm onwards. If you're relying on public transport today, plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.
Bus Vannin has also announced service diversions throughout the day due to the royal occasion, so check with them before travelling. Additionally, several road closures are in place around Douglas and will remain until after the King's visit concludes.
The highlight of the day will be King Charles's visit to the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway this afternoon. He's also scheduled to visit Tynwald earlier in the day, marking a significant moment in the Island's royal calendar. The House of Keys will sit this afternoon following the royal engagement at Tynwald.
On a brighter note for visitors, Manx National Heritage is celebrating the opening of a brand-new visitor centre at the iconic Laxey Wheel—a perfect attraction to explore once transport services return to normal. Government offices in Douglas will be closed today, but essential services continue elsewhere across the Island.
