Douglas-bound traffic flows again as Manx Utilities completes essential pumping station work

By 3FM Published 19 March 2026

Good news for commuters and visitors heading to Douglas — the Old Castletown Road has partially reopened this morning following essential maintenance work. After several days of disruption, traffic travelling into Douglas from Kewaigue can now use the route, though full two-way access will return on Wednesday, March 25.

Road Works Complete at White Hoe

Manx Utilities had closed the Old Castletown Road to carry out critical repairs to a pumping station at the entrance to the White Hoe Industrial Estate. During the closure, traffic was diverted through Quarterbridge, causing delays for those travelling between the south of the Island and the capital.

The phased reopening marks progress on infrastructure improvements across the Isle of Man. Travellers heading to Douglas attractions, restaurants, and amenities can now use the more direct route, reducing journey times from southern areas. Full reopening in both directions is expected by March 25, completing the project ahead of the busy spring tourism season.

Plan Your Journey

  • Partial reopening now: Douglas-bound traffic from Kewaigue
  • Full reopening: Wednesday, March 25, 2026
  • Route: Old Castletown Road via White Hoe Industrial Estate
  • Alternative during restrictions: Quarterbridge diversion
