Onchan community comes together to support local charities through beautiful garden tours

By ManxRadio Published 5 July 2026

When fifteen homes across Onchan opened their garden gates to the community on Sunday, 5 July 2026, they didn't just showcase the Island's horticultural beauty — they raised an impressive £10,000 for two deserving Manx charities. The Onchan Secret Gardens event proved that combining community spirit with a love of gardening is a winning formula for doing good.

A Green Success for Local Charities

The funds raised will benefit Sight Matters and Housing Matters, two organisations making a real difference across the Isle of Man. The event's success was driven by strong community participation, with visitors purchasing over 1,184 booklets to guide them through the participating gardens. The lineup even included a special tour of the gardens at Government House, adding an exclusive touch to the day.

How the Event Raised Funds

  • Ticket and booklet sales (over 1,184 sold)
  • Raffle prizes and draws
  • Food and refreshments sold throughout the day

Organisers have expressed their gratitude to everyone who participated, volunteered, or simply came along to enjoy the gardens. The generosity and enthusiasm shown by the Onchan community made this event a true celebration of local spirit.

Looking Forward to 2028

With the success of this second Secret Gardens event, planners are already thinking ahead. The next edition is scheduled for 2028, giving gardeners across the parish two years to nurture their outdoor spaces and prepare to welcome visitors once more. If you're interested in opening your garden or supporting future events, keep an eye on local announcements in the coming years.
