Local leader Steve Curphey joins seven-strong field for Ayre and Michael seat
As the Isle of Man General Election approaches, the political race in Ayre and Michael is heating up. Steve Curphey, the current chair of Ballaugh Parish Commissioners, has announced his candidacy, becoming the seventh person to throw their hat in the ring for this important constituency seat.
Curphey's campaign is built on a core principle: keeping government close to the people it serves. He's identified three key priorities that will guide his representation: government reform at both local and national levels, fairer taxation, and improved health service budgetary control.
"Too many residents feel that decision-making has become distant from everyday life," Curphey explained, emphasising his belief that government should be proactive rather than reactive. He's calling for representation that is "accessible, accountable, and prepared to lead with purpose and compassion."
