Spectacular racing kicks off the Pre-TT Classic series on the Isle of Man
The Blackford Financial Services Pre-TT Classic Road Races roared to life on Saturday evening with glorious sunshine, thrilling finishes, and impressive speeds that set the tone for an exciting weekend of motorsport on the Isle of Man. Racing around the Billown Course, competitors delivered close battles and impressive lap times that have left fans eagerly anticipating Sunday's action.
The SP-R Singles Classic Race saw Will Loder from Hinckley claim victory over six laps with an impressive average speed of 85.459mph. Mike Hose (Moreton) finished second, with Shelley Pike securing third after a nail-biting battle to the finish line. In the 250cc class, Owen Monaghan took the top spot ahead of Joris Fastenaekels and Gary Hutton.
The 1100cc Classic delivered another thriller over seven laps, with Andy Hornby timing a perfectly executed final-lap move to claim victory. Alan Oversby finished second and set the fastest lap of the race at 94.076mph, while Mike Hose claimed a second podium of the evening in third place.
Grant Thomson from Port St Mary showed determination on home roads, leading from the start of the Geoff Duke Junior Superbike Race and holding on for victory with a best lap of 99mph. Barry Furber (Bishop's Castle) impressed in second despite his machine undergoing major rebuild work shortly before the race, while Leon Donaghy (Preston) completed the podium.
The M.C. Locksmiths Sidecar Classic Race 1 featured several familiar pairings alongside exciting newcomers Jason Rees and Shayne Perry, who travelled all the way from New Zealand to compete. Kieran Clarke and Andrew Johnson, the 2023 lap record holders, took victory, with Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle in second and Greg Lambert and Andrew Haynes completing the podium.
Roads around the Billown Course close again at 1pm on Sunday for six more races, with another afternoon of thrilling action expected. The circuit will reopen no later than 6pm, with the prize presentation taking place in Castletown Square from 7:30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for tourism visitors to experience world-class road racing on the Isle of Man's iconic circuits.
