Wet weather fails to dampen spirits as TT campers make the most of race week
Despite wet conditions turning some of the Isle of Man's campsites into muddy retreats during the opening days of the 2026 TT festival, visitors are staying in remarkably good spirits. While the unpredictable early June weather has tested the resolve of some racers and fans, the Island's well-prepared accommodation sites are proving their worth—keeping guests entertained and comfortable as they await the start of racing.
The Ballaugh Campsite in the northwest has earned the affectionate nickname 'Costa del Ballaugh' for good reason. Despite the rain, the site is well-equipped to handle extended downtime, offering indoor lounges, TV facilities, and easy access to the Raven pub nearby. Cheryl Curphey from the campsite reports that while some visitors have decided to leave early, the majority remain upbeat about their TT experience.
Other major campsites, including Glen Wyllin, are equally prepared for all weather scenarios. Co-owner James Hooper explains that the business has invested in infrastructure specifically designed to handle adverse conditions, ensuring guests can enjoy their stay regardless of what the weather brings.
After days of rain affecting the race schedule, racing was expected to go ahead on 5 June, following a one-hour delay confirmed by the Clerk of the Course. The delay was caused by a police incident at Brandywell, though emergency services have worked smoothly with local authorities to keep the festival on track.
