Storm disruptions force cancellations and delays across Irish Sea routes this weekend

By 3FM Published 28 March 2026

Travellers planning to cross the Irish Sea this weekend should prepare for significant disruptions, as severe weather has already forced the cancellation of two sailings and left four more at risk. The Steam Packet Company has warned passengers to expect potential delays and changes to their travel plans as stormy conditions continue to batter the region.

Sailings Cancelled and Under Threat This Weekend

Saturday's crossings have already been hit hard, with both of the Manxman's scheduled sailings from Douglas cancelled. The 8am departure to Heysham and the 1.45pm return journey will not operate due to the adverse weather conditions.

Sunday's services face an equally uncertain outlook, with four additional sailings now under threat:

  • The Manxman's 8am Heysham crossing and 1.45pm return journey — decision by 6am Sunday
  • The Manannan's 3pm Douglas to Liverpool voyage and 7.15pm return — decision by 1pm Sunday

What You Should Do Now

If you're travelling between the Isle of Man and the UK mainland this weekend, contact the Steam Packet Company immediately to check the latest status of your booking. Keep an eye on official updates, as decisions on Sunday's services will be made closer to departure times. Those with flexible travel plans may want to consider rescheduling for early next week when conditions are expected to improve.
