Major road reopens one-way to Douglas as pumping station work finishes ahead of schedule
Good news for commuters and visitors heading into Douglas — the White Hoe is about to get a whole lot busier. Manx Utilities has announced that the Old Castletown Road will reopen as a one-way route into the capital from 7am tomorrow morning (Thursday, 19 March), marking a major breakthrough in their pumping station maintenance project.
The good news doesn't stop there. The pumping station work is running ahead of schedule, meaning the one-way arrangement will become permanent rather than reversing at the end of each day. This should help ease the traffic congestion that's been affecting alternative routes across the island as diverted vehicles have sought ways around the closure.
Drivers and residents can expect the full reopening of the route by Wednesday, 25 March, when normal two-way traffic should resume. Until then, plan your journey accordingly if you're heading towards Douglas — the one-way system will be in place to manage traffic flow efficiently.
If you're visiting the Isle of Man or commuting regularly, this reopening is welcome relief. The partial reopening tomorrow will significantly reduce delays that have been building up on alternative routes, making journeys into Douglas faster and more predictable for everyone on the road.
